Upcycled Wine Cart from Antique Sewing Cabinet

Who doesn't love an amazing transformation of a piece of vintage or antique furniture? We took this antique sewing cabinet (had no machine) which was waiting for it's update. I loved the carvings in the wood and could not wait to make these the star of the show all while using the best dang paint made in the USA from Dixie Belle. I will give you first hand instructions on how to do the same. This is what she looked like before the transformation.

So with any piece of furniture, it is imperative to give a good clean with the Dixie Belle White Lightening. It cleans it and also de-glosses in the event there is any furniture polish or wax. After cleaning with the white lightening then always rinse to make sure all product residue has been removed.

Pro Tip: Mix up your solution in a water bottle and keep handy for all of your future products.

So after the wash, I then did a scuff sand as I do with all of my pieces and wiped clean again. I then decided to BOSS the piece even though I had intentions of using the Silk All In One Mineral Paint as while I was cleaning, I could see this was very much a bleeder. So rather than take any chances, I used the gray BOSS. It is perfect for stain blocking and blocking any smells. I only did one coat though and now to the fun stuff-Painting!!

Like I mentioned earlier, I painted the piece with Silk All In One Mineral Paint in the calming color of Serenity. I love this color already and it is only my first piece. I can see using this paint more and more in the future.

The Silk retails on my website for only $24.95. Again, this paint comes with a built-in stain blocker and top coat. How easy is that!!

Pro Tip for Easy Painting with the new Silk Line:

  1. Cleaning with DB White Lightening.

  2. Scuff Sand

  3. Use a dry Synthetic Brush

  4. Do Not Use Water

We do have the Dixie Belle amazing Synthetic Brushes in Stock at all times. Check them out on our website. This is the sewing cabinet after the 2nd coat of Silk. I love the magic it works and it is so easy to work with.

Next on the agenda was then applying the ReDesign by Prima Furniture Transfer Violet Hill. We do have more in stock and also waiting on the new Dixie Belle Transfers. Applying transfers to any piece can be be daunting but after a couple of times it is easy-peasy!!

Now on to the glam!! Another one of my all time favorite products is the Gemstone Mousse. I use it on most of my projects. This one was completed with the Gemstone Gem Mousse which is a beautiful vibrant gold.

Pro Tip for use of the Gemstone Mousse:

  1. ALWAYS stir product each time so you can mix it up very good. I always use a small popsicle stick for this.

  2. Add a little bit of water if the consistency is too thick and stir again.

  3. Use an artist brush or your finger for the application. Use very thin coats.

  4. No need to seal but if you want to seal then mix the DB clear coat in with your product before applying. We recommend the DB Gloss for this application.

So on to the final step, there is no need to add a top coat on top of the new Silk All In One Mineral Paint but because I did use a transfer, I always apply a top coat for sealing. I used the Dixie Belle Clear Coat in Satin. I applied using the blue sponge. I love the blue sponge for applying this product.

Pro Tip: When using the blue sponge and you need to get to the corners or hard to reach spaces then cut your sponge up so you can easily work around a handle or into a corner.

Now the installation of the addition to hold the wine glasses and wine bottles was done by my husband who does all of these kinds of fun things for me. I have the vision but he makes it happen!!

Here she is!! I love it!! I hope that you do too!
