My husband found this piece on facebook marketplace and we just fell in love. It was in relatively good shape with minor issues so we thought. After getting it home and after a closer look we saw that it had some damages to the top as well as on the bottom. I have to admit that I was imitated by her beauty and I was not ready to tackle refinishing it.
After several months of trying to plan for the transformation, I decided I was ready to tackle it head on. I have learned to properly paint a piece begins with properly prepping for the paint. So I began with a thorough cleaning with Dixie Belle White Lightening, rinsing and then let it completely dry. I then touched up and repaired the blemishes and broken veneer with Dixie Belle Mud. After it completely dried, I sanded those places down and it is now ready for the primer. I used Dixie Belle Clear Boss. I absolutely did not want to take any chances with any bleeding. So now on to the fun stuff!! I began with Dixie Belle Fluff (white) Chalk Paint.
After two coats, I decided to change the color to Dixie Belle Vintage Duck Egg because I thought it was a better match for the beautiful contact paper that we applied to the inside of the hutch. Now on to the embellishments. I love the look of gold highlights and I thought this would be a perfect fit. This picture before the final touches was applied.
Pro Tip: When applying waxes like you see in the above pic, it is best to apply a top coat for easier application. The wax just glides right on and you can easily manipulate the wax. You can apply the wax without a top coat but it makes it more difficult to maneuver.
Now on to the handles, I did not like the handles that was on the piece as they were old and dated. Plus it wasn't the originals as there were multiple holes there where the handles had been replaced once before. I then covered up the existing holes and drilled new holes for the hardware. So after completely embellishing and applying Easy Peasy Wax she is ready to head to the store to be displayed for all to see.
